Janet & David,

I have taken another crack at the Sadler copyright letter in view of input
received and not received.

On reflection, I believe we have no choice but to remove the material from
the web site, pending recept of permission from either "Patty" or the
Foundation, unless we plan to dispute Patty's claim (which seems
counterproductive).

David: Please point me to everywhere the exact parts that are under dispute
appear so I can consider whether any "fair use" claim should be made in
this respect to avoid removal.

Happy holidays...Dan

Dear XX:

Please accept my apologies for the tardiness of this note. As you know, our organization is dependent on volunteer effort and has just one full-time employee. As the volunteer charged by the Executive Committee to prepare this letter, I have been remiss in my effort due to a heavy schedule of personal commitments. Our organization's web page contains certain material excerpted or adapted from informally printed documents written by William Samuel Sadler.

We understand that Urantia Foundation claims a copyright interest in this material. We sincerely apologize for any misunderstanding that may have arisen from our reproduction of this material. We were not aware that any living individual or organization held a copyright interest in these documents. The copies from which we prepared our web presentation bore no copyright notice. In the absence of such notice, we did not think to search US copyright registrations.

We have subsequently learned that Patricia Mundelius claims copyright interest in these works. From this information, we should request permission from Patricia Mundelius to use these documents on our web site; however, if some assignment of rights exists of which we are not aware exists to Urantia Foundation, then such request should be directed to you as trustees. We would very much appreciate your assistance in clarifying and resolving this matter.. Rest assured that we intend to seek appropriate arrangements in respect of the copyright interests of Urantia Foundation and have, in the interim, suspended
reproduction of the questioned material on our web site.

Very truly yours,

Dan Massey for The Urantia Book Fellowship etc.
