The Interfaith Committee Report

The Interfaith Committee

The International and Interfaith committees have discussed working together to create position papers for various faith beliefs. The goal of these papers is to introduce the Urantia Book to the people being visited by the International Committee. At this time, no progress has been made on this effort.

A member of the Interfaith Committee is traveling to India to work with the International committee at the India book fair. This book fair is one of the largest in the world.

Interfaith and International met at the home of Gard Jameson this past September to discuss collaboration. We’ll further our discussion in 2008. Both committees believe working together will be beneficial on many levels. The Interfaith Committee sees values in educating our Interfaith and International members in the faiths and culture they will visit. In May 2008, we will be meeting at the home of Peter Laurence to begin the study of Buddhism and Chinese culture.

The Interfaith committee will also commence World’s Religion study retreats once a year. We piloted an on-line class and the surveys suggest a failure because on-line is not conducive for this type of class. These retreats will be in-depth study of a religion and culture taught by an expert in the field. We believe understanding the culture as well as the religion is important to dialogue.

We have also committed to joining our local Interfaith Committees representing The Urantia Book Fellowship and presenting workshops. Peter Laurence and I will be presenting a workshop in San Francisco the end of July 2008 and the National NAIN conference.

The Interfaith Committee will also have a booth at IC08 to speak with students of the Urantia Book about the importance of interfaith dialogue and in general, the work we are doing.

Personal commitment to Interfaith

As Committee Chair on Interfaith, I have committed myself to learning, serving and participating in Interfaith. I serve on the Board of Directors for NAIN, North American Interfaith Network, and will be the North American Conference Chair in Kansas City in 2009. We will use the new Unity Conference Center and hotel. The steering committee has begun planning this conference.

I was co-chair for the Table of Faiths luncheon (a fund raiser) that is sponsored by the Greater Kansas City Interfaith Council. 700 people joined us for lunch and a wonderful interfaith program.
