The Interfaith Committee
On May 30, 2008 the Interfaith Committee met at the home of Peter and Eileen Laurence. We were instructed by a Buddhist nun, Ji Hyang Sunim and taken to a nearby Buddhist temple and meditation center. We’re studying two religions per year in order to better understand and dialogue with faiths with which we come in contact.
Members of the Interfaith Committee have joined their local Interfaith Communities as a Urantia Book Reader. We are active in our Interfaith communities, giving our time and energy to further the communities’ planned efforts.
We have also dedicated ourselves to spreading the Urantia concepts in various ways. Peter and Susan are conducting a workshop at this year’s NAIN conference in San Francisco, as students of the Urantia Book. We’ll be discussing the “big” questions such as: life, death, evil, etc. and using quotes from the Urantia Book to stimulate questions from the workshop attendees.
We also have in the works to present this same workshop at the University of Missouri in Kansas City (UMKC). This university offers Kansas City a variety of one-day workshops and ongoing classes outside of the university curriculum. We are currently investigating similar opportunities in other states. Our plan is to bring in local Urantia Book students, teach them the workshop model, and encourage them to keep these classes going.
We fully realize this is spilling over into Education and will soon discuss our activity with the Education Committee Chair after the election.
Our next meeting will be in September at the home of Gard Jameson. Our choice of study has yet to be determined.
