Over the past three years the work of the secretary-general has gone on, almost as usual, with the exception that it has become heavier each year.
As I am sure all of you know, I found it necessary to resign a year ago March and was absent for 9 months, returning in December 1975. During my absence, E. L. Christensen was Acting Secretary-General and she was ably assisted by John Hales.
During the past year John Hales has done most of the actual work of the secretary-general, acting as the chief clerical officer, running the office, acting as office manager, buying supplies and printing, and so on. I have been helping him with some of the routine office work and taking dictation on his voluminous correspondence. My thanks to John for doing my work.
