Berkeley, CA 94709Dear Vern:
I regret having to write this letter but your unilateral action in calling and writing Brotherhood members all over the country rather than letting the democratic process in official Brotherhood channels determine our action is a serious usurpation of prerogative and power.
I know you believe you are doing the right thing. Others, like Eve, with good motives have taken things into their own hands with disastrous results. As the person who introduced you to The Urantia Book, I have a special concern for you. I have always had great hope for your service in the Urantia movement and believed you would be a major influence contributing to unity in the Brotherhood. Now you are the most serious source of divisiveness in the history of Urantia Brotherhood.
I appeal to you to reconsider what you are doing. Remember the authors of The Urantia Book tell us it is better to mistake God's voice a dozen times for your own voice than to once assume that your subconscious voice is God's direction. It would be much better in the day of judgment to have made the first error than the latter mistake.
You should also consider that many of your friends and level-headed, dedicated people do not agree with what you are doing. I am confident that in time the great majority of the students of The Urantia Book will regard your move to influence the Brotherhood as an aberrant incident in the Urantia movement.
Please look at the fruits of your action. It has already caused fear and some panic and is factualizaing the greatest divisiveness in the history of Urantia Brotherhood. In by-passing the democratic process and taking things in your own hands you are setting the stage for yet another tragedy on Urantia. It is not too late to reverse much of the damage done. Please reconsider; earnestly seek the Father's inner guidance,
Sincerely,
/s/ Meredith
