Mr. James P. Jarnagin, President
First Urantia Society of Houston
Dear Jim:
We have received your letter of August 3, 1978, informing us that the First Urantia Society of Houston has decided not to resign their society charter. I know you are sincere in believing this is in the best interests of the Urantia movement.
Although the Executive Committee would have preferred to see you take the "voluntary" approach, we recognize your right to choose a different path. We human beings usually like to follow the easy paths, but sometimes this is not wise. Who knows, maybe testing the validity of our decision to require all societies to sign the Licensing Agreement may be the best course of action in the long run. Certainly, if we have requirements which will not hold up when put to the most rigorous tests, it is good for the Brotherhood to know this early in its history.
A Mighty Messenger tells us on page 613: "Of all of the perplexing problems growing out of the Lucifer rebellion, none has occasioned more difficulty than the failure of immature evolutionary mortals to distinguish between true and false liberty."
Even though we may disagree on Brotherhood requirements for society status, I would hope we may exercise brotherly love even as we bring tests to determine what is "true" freedom in Urantia Brotherhood.
Cordially,
Meredith J. Sprunger, President
