Resolutions
for the 2000 Triennial Delegate Assembly
June 29-30, 2000
Resolution #1 - Continue the TDA until 2001
Motion to the TDA: I move that at the completion of the business of the moment, the 2000 Triennial Delegate Assembly shall not adjourn sine die, but shall recess to reconvene at a time and place to be announced, which shall be the same place as the 2001 annual meeting of the General Council and at a time at least 48 hours prior to the convening of said General Council meeting, or such other proximate time as may be convenient. In support of this, the Committee of Resolutions of the 2000 Triennial Delegate Assembly, at the completion of the business of the moment, shall not adjourn, but shall recess to reconvene at the same time and place of the reconvening, of the 2000 TDA (13 for, 2 against, 0 abstensions).
Resolution to the General Council: Whereas the 2000 Triennial delecate Assembly of the Fellowship has been lawfully
convened, pursuant to the Constitution of the Fellowship, for the election of members of the General Council and for the consideration of resolutions to guide the General Council in setting policy for Fellowship activities, and,
Whereas the 2000 TDA has declined to adjourn at this time and has extended its session at least until the 2001 annual meeting of the General Council, and,
Whereas the 2000 TDA has taken this action to enhance the support chartered societies are able to supply, through their elected delegates, to the continuing work of the General Council, and,
Whereas the 2000 TDA wishes to communicate the import of these actions to the General council, that the continuing growth and welfare of our movement may be served;Now therefore be it resolved that the 2000 TDA shall, upon returning from recess on various future occasions, invite reports from the General Council concerning the disposition of its resolutions, invite reports from the Executive Committee concerning the implementation of decisions of the Council in regard to those resolutions, and enact further resolutions for the contining guidance of the General Council.
Be it further resolved that the General Council shall provide and shall direct the Executive Committee to provide such reports to the continuing 2000 TDA in an accurate and timely manner to support the continuing activities of the 2000 TDA and its participation in the governing process of the Fellowship. The Executive Committee is also requested to arrange suitable facilities for the future meetings of the 2000 TDA (14 for, 1 opposed , 0 abstensions).Resolution #2 - Appoint a Task Force to Deal with Urantia Foundation Issues
Be it resolved, the delegates hereby direct the General Council, in keeping with constitutional guidelines, to appoint a small task force to deal with Foundation issues, leaving The Fellowship free to focus on service and outreach ministry." (8 for, 7 opposed, 0 abstensions)
Resolution #3 - Keep Societies Informed
Whereas the Fellowship is a democratic organization comprised of and responsible to its members and their Societies, and,Whereas the essence of a democratic organization is the ability of its constituents to provide informed input to their elected governing bodies through awareness of their activities, now therefore;
Be it resolved, that the General Council and Executive Committee shall keep the membership frequently and openly informed of their actions and decisions (14 for, 0 opposed, 1 abstension).
Resolution #4 - Encourage Deliberations on President's Report
Whereas, the outgoing president of the Fellowship read a formal statement to the 2000 TDA indicating that "...our major organizations are facing the choice of reform or failure," and further that this "...system has exhausted the potential of its infancy,"
And whereas the outgoing president has further indicated in reference to the general crisis of governance of the Urantia movement that we must "carefully examine what has transpired during the past fifty years and make a reasonable effort to design a new) organizational structure" for the entire movement and its institutions;
Be it resolved, that the TDA supports the sentiments in the July 2000 statement (attached hereto) and encourages serious consideration and debate of its contents by any and all parties across the entire Urantia community, toward the end of considering steps toward reform of all Urantia movement institutions.
Be it further resolved that the 2000 TDA intends to discuss this further at the 2001 meeting and invites resolutions and other communication from other parties (9 for, 5 opposed, 1 abstension).
Resolution #5 - Support Unity Initiatives
Whereas only twice in the entire Urantia Book are we given the words of Jesus' prayers,
And whereas the last of these prayers was for the unity of his followers,
And whereas by professing to be his followers we have the collective opportunity to become, in part, the answer to Jesus' prayer;Now therefore be it resolved that the Triennial Delecate Assembly, representing the constituent bodies of The Urantia Book Fellowship--and in a spirit of warmth and friendship--strongly encourages the General Council and the Executive Committee to
continue to work toward a state of dynamic cooperation and teamwork with both the International Urantia Association and Urantia Foundation, and to enlist the services and resources of Fellowship Societies and members-at-large in this endeavor. (12 for, 0 opposed, 3 abstensions)
