EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE LETTER To General Councilors, Society Presidents, and Field Representatives: This year, 1985, marks the 30th anniversary of both the publishing of The Urantia Book and the founding of Urantia Brotherhood. In my opinion this anniversary is particularly noteworthy for several reasons: 1. Our organization encountered many obstacles during the last several years. Due to the commitment, energy and dedication of many persons through this time, we are much strengthened as we face the next thirty years of activity. 2. There are many new faces on the General Council, Executive Committee, and on the standing Committees. This will certainly contribute to a renewal of the vitality necessary to enthusiastically undertake the work of Urantia Brotherhood. 3. The Executive Committee unanimously approved the chartering of a new society, the first outside the contiguous forty-eight states; Northern Light Urantia Society of Alaska. This milestone is certainly appropriate to this anniversary year and signals hopefully a renewed commitment by each and every member of Urantia Brotherhood to the cooperative assumption of the responsibilities of extending the reach of the teachings of The Urantia Book into all of our planet. One of the primary responsibilities each of us has is to participate actively in the improvement of communications. This should not just be limited to the publication of information, but more importantly, a commitment to the kind of dialogue which helps dissolve the time and distance barriers to friendship. While we will do our best to keep you informed of our deliberations on your behalf at our various meetings, you, too, can help by contacting anyone of any of the committees with whom you would like to confer about any subject. Please do it often. To facilitate this process, we have enclosed the following: 1) A revised General Council/Standing Committee Listing 2) A General Council Name, Address, and Phone List 3) A Current Society Officer List. We are currently working on a summary report of the TDA, General Council, and Executive Committee meetings, which will be forth-coming in the next two weeks. I am sure I speak for all of us in gratefully thanking those whose service and functional capacities is over and, from those returning and newly elected to organizational roles, we dedicate our efforts to the work we are undertaking in the spirit of cooperation, patience, wisdom, mutual respect, and caring, which will forever mark us as sons and daughters of the Father we seek to bring a little closer to man. Thank you for the opportunity to be of service. Yours sincerely, David N. Elders, President Urantia Book DNE/rjf cc: Society Secretaries & Brotherhood Committee Members |
