  • Daniel 10:13. "The prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; but Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me." (Marginal note, Authorized Version -- "the first chief prince.")
  • Daniel 10:21. "But I will tell you what is inscribed in the book of truth; there is none who contends by my side against these except Michael, your prince."
  • Daniel 12:1. "At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who has charge of your people...At that time your people shall be delivered, every one whose name shall be found written in the book." (Then follows a description of a special resurrection in Daniel 12:2. "And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake."
  • Jude 9. "But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, disputed about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a reviling judgment upon him, but said, 'The Lord rebuke you.'"
  • Revelation 12:7. "Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought."

The name "Michael" signifies "Who is like God." In the rabbinic writings Michael is frequently mentioned in connection with the history of Moses. (See Exodus 2:11-13.)

In total, the name "Michael" is mentioned fifteen times in the Bible, ten times in the Old Testament as a name of some person. The name is used five times in reference to a superhuman being.
